Double standards on armed guards

To the editor:

Wayne LaPierre of the NRA was criticized for saying, “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.” His anti-gun critics consider firearms to be offensive weapons, not defensive ones that protect people and save lives.

Liberals use double standards when promoting “equality.” In their elitist world President Obama and Vice President Biden deserve armed Secret Service protection but they condemned Mr. LaPierre’s suggestion that students be protected by security guards with guns.

How would you defend yourself against someone bigger, faster and stronger who has a knife or club? A gun is the best defensive weapon in that situation.

People who use guns to protect themselves or others rarely receive the news media publicity given to nuts who go on a shooting spree and kill children. That other side of the story needs to be told more often.

Another good thing about guns is they can be used to deter an attack without even being fired or by being fired into the air as a warning.

America’s biggest mass murder occurred on Sept. 11, 2001 when jets hijacked by terrorists crashed into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Guns didn’t cause those deaths but armed guards could have prevented them.

In 40 years, more than 50 million American children have died violent deaths, none of them caused by guns.

All of those victims perished in abortion clinics the legalization of which is defended by liberals who condemn guns and blame them for violence committed by evil or deranged people.
