Snowmobile fatality victim named
HOUGHTON – The Michigan State Police Calumet Post has released the name of the Houghton man killed in a fatal snowmobile accident Friday night.
At about 9:50 p.m., Roger A. Lewis, 41, drove his snowmobile under a steel cable located on private property in Ripley, said Sgt. James Revoyr of the Michigan State Police Calumet Post. Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene; Mercy EMS transported him to Portage Health.
Condolences are being taken on the Facebook page for the Portage Lake Pioneers hockey team, for whom Lewis was a forward.
Alcohol was involved in the crash, the MSP said in a release. It was unknown if Lewis was wearing a helmet, Revoyr said. The accident remains under investigation.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Hancock Police Department.
A memorial service for Lewis will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at SS. Peter & Paul Lutheran Church in Houghton. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the church.
