Ewen-Trout Creek girls dump Bessemer

EWEN – The Ewen-Trout Creek girls pitched a first-quarter shutout and routed Bessemer 53-25 in Porcupine Mountain Conference play Monday night.

“We pressed them, which didn’t cause a whole lot of turnovers, but the pressure got to them and they had difficulty getting shots in the first quarter,” E-TC coach Jacky Besonen said after her team jumped to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the PMC.

Bessemer came to life in the second quarter, getting three treys from Whitney Trcka, but E-TC held a 23-14 halftime lead, then blew it out with an 18-2 third-quarter advantage.

“I was happy with our girls because they finally finished a game,” Besonen said.

The Panthers got 12 points from Taylor Niemi and 10 from Brittany Suomumaki as the Speedgirls clamped down in the post on Zoey McGeshick.

E-TC plays at Chassell Thursday night.
