NEW ALLOUEZ – Lillian Allen, 88, a resident of Cypress Manor in Hancock and former Allouez resident, passed away early Tuesday morning at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium where she had been a patient for the past week.
She was born Dec. 9, 1924, in Fulton, a daughter of Herman and Caroline (Lahti) Wetelainen. She was a Calumet High School graduate with the Class of 1942.
Lillian married Berto Allen in 1947. He preceded her in death in April 1996.
She worked as a waitress at the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge and owned and operated the Midway Bar in Kearsarge.
Lillian enjoyed golfing and bowling. She gave up bowling in her 87th year, but continued to golf which she loved. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles.
She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Mohawk.
Also preceding her in death were her son, Gene; brothers, Hubert, Edwin, Arthur, Arne and George Wetelainen; sisters, Linda Anderson, Olga Heino, Sylvia Olli and Gertrude Kinnunen.
Lillian is survived by her son, Robert (Bonnie) Allen of Calumet; her daughter, Norma (Eugene) Theiler of Woodinville, Wash.; four grandchildren, Jeffrey (Sara) Theiler, Steven Theiler, Kathryn (Steve Loukus) and Rebecca Allen; two great-grandchildren, Jackson Theiler and Morgan Theiler.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16, in the Erickson Crowley Funeral Home in Calumet with Rev. Tim Johnston to officiate.
Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Spring burial to be in the Calvary Cemetery in Ahmeek.
