Alleged kidnapper arraigned

HOUGHTON – The Hubbell man on the run from police for several months after an alleged kidnapping was arraigned in 97th District Court Monday morning.

Raymond Ojala Jr., 30, turned himself in Saturday at the Houghton County Jail.

He was charged with kidnapping-custodial interference, a felony punishable by a year and a day in prison.

Police began seeking Ojala and Christina Gagnon, 32, of Calumet in December after allegedly writing a string of bad checks.

Gagnon is still on the run with her son, who has not been to school since a family disturbance at Thanksgiving. There are warrants for her arrest and the son has been entered as a missing endangered child. She is reported to be in the Green Bay area.

Ojala’s bond was set at 10 percent cash of $5,000. His preliminary hearing was set for Jan. 28.
