Finlandia sweeps Northland

ASHLAND, Wis. – The Finlandia University mens’ basketball team notched its third win of the year, as Jon Moore’s 34 points on 13-of-19 shooting keyed a 82-60 win over Northland College.

The Lions made 52.3 percent of their field-goal attempts.

FU went on a 16-0 run in the middle of the first half for a 37-20 lead and cemented their advantage by going 17-for-29 from the field in the second half.

Finlandia, which committed just three turnovers, got 12 points from Dominic Morrow and 10 apiece from Allante Denson and Anthony Grandberry.

The Lions are now 3-13 on the year.

In the women’s game, Finlandia got 24 points from Brierra Ruska and 22 from Marissa Burke in a 67-53 victory over Northland.

Both Lions had excellent shooting nights, with Burke knocking down five three-pointers and going 8-for-14 from the field and Ruska making all six of her free throws and going 8-for-13 from the field.

The Lions led 27-18 at the half, then accelerated away with 40 second-half points.

Finlandia is now 7-12.

Both Finlandia teams host Northland International Saturday.
