BOOTJACK – Paul Pichette, 84, longtime resident of Bootjack, passed away Jan. 17, 2013, at Portage Health in Hancock after a brief illness.
He was born Apr. 14, 1928, in Lake Linden, a son of Gaston and Hazel (Jilbert) Pichette.
Paul was a graduate of Lake Linden-Hubbell High School with the Class of 1946. He received a teaching degree from Northern Michigan University.
Paul served in the U.S. Army with the 439th Eng. Construction Battalion in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. Upon his return, he spent several years in the insurance business with his father. Later, he earned his Master’s degree from NMU and pursued a career as the Industrial Arts Instructor for Hancock Public Schools, retiring in 1985.
Paul was married to Shirley Miller on June 5, 1954, at Holy Rosary Church in Lake Linden.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Linden and the Lake Linden-Hubbell Sportsman’s Association. He was very proud of his military service and was a member of American Legion Post 90 and the Hubbell VFW. He was a founding member of the Rice Lake Snow-Cats Club and a member of the Valley Sno-drifters.
Paul loved the outdoors. He enjoyed many outdoor activities and sports, including hunting. He also enjoyed feeding all kinds of wild animals.
He played in a local music group called the “Pan-handlers.” He loved creating things in his shop and fixing things for others.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack (Mary) Pichette; grandson, Jeff Moyle; mother and father-in-law, Clyde and Henrietta Miller; niece, Ruth Ann Miller.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughter, Denise (Tom) Moyle of Bootjack; two grandsons, Gary (Amy) Moyle and Andy (Jean) Moyle; granddaughter-in-love, Kim (Todd) Moyle-Keteri; seven great-grandchildren, Marissa, Dayton, Blake, Reagan, Gracie, Davis and Bryce; nephews, Brian (Dawn) Pichette of Bootjack, Max Pichette of New York, NY, Clyde (Shannon) Miller of Hancock and Gary Miller of Phoeniz, Ariz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22 in the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Linden with Fr. Brian Gerber to officiate. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. on Monday in the Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden with a parish prayer service at 7:30. Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Lake Linden.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly.
