3 injured in separate snowmobile crashes
ADAMS TOWNSHIP – Deputies from the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office were called to a pole line in Adams Township near Trail No. 3 at about noon Saturday. The crash involved three snowmobiles.
Two snowmobilers were parked on top of a ridge when a third snowmobiler approached them. The third snowmobile malfunctioned and the driver could not stop. The third snowmobile struck the two parked snowmobiles. The two snowmobilers who were struck sought their own treatment at Portage Health. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
In a separate accident, Houghton County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call at about 4:55 p.m. Saturday on a one-vehicle snowmobile accident.
The crash occurred on Trail No. 3 in Adams Township between Atlantic Mine and South Range.
A 28-year-old male subject from Minnesota was northbound on the trail when he lost control of his machine. The driver and his machine became airborne, with the driver being ejected. The machine and driver left the trail and came to rest in a ditch off the trail.
The driver was treated at the scene by Adams Township First Responders before being taken by Mercy EMS to Portage Health. The subject was later taken to Marquette General Hospital. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. The accident remains under investigation.
