CHASSELL – George Sauvola, 75, a resident of Chassell, passed away Tuesday morning, Jan. 22, 2013, at Cypress Manor Nursing Home in Hancock.
He was born Mar. 18, 1937, in Hancock, a son of the late George and Alma (Ouisti) Sauvola. George was a graduate of Chassell High School.
On Feb. 4, 1956, he was united in marriage to the former Kathryn Colombe.
Mr. Sauvola attended Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chassell.
He had worked for 25 years as a welder for Pettibone Manufacturing in Baraga.
George enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting and fishing, 4-wheeling, snowmobiling and spending time at camp.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his daughter, Grace; his brother, Rueben; and an infant sister.
Surviving are his wife, Kathryn Sauvola of Chassell; his children, Kathryn (Timothy) Bruhnke of Clintonville, Wis., Judith (Tony DeCesare) Michaelson of Hancock and Lori (Brian) LaFave of Hubbell; his grandchilden, T.J., Lucas, Justina, Jacob, Joseph and Katelyn; four great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services for George will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26 in the Plowe Funeral Home in Houghton with Pastor Patrick Willmert to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Chassell Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday from 1 p.m. until time of services in the funeral home.
