Big road win for Hancock boys
IRON RIVER – The Hancock Bulldogs carried their winning streak with them on the bus Thursday, whipping WestPAC co-leaders West Iron County 61-41 on the road to extend their run to six games.
“The guys are pretty upbeat right now, and obviously with six wins in a row, it’s a lot different from being on the losing side of things. The guys are having a whole lot of fun and they want to keep rolling right now,” Hancock coach Curtis Wittenberg said.
The Bulldogs drained nine three-pointers in the first half and took a 37-20 lead into the locker room.
“With them focusing on Alex (Almquist) inside, the other guys have stepped up outside the arc and forced them to come out and guard them a little bit,” Wittenberg said.
Matt Yao hit four of Hancock’s 10 triples for the game. He and Shane Raasio scored 12 points apiece, while Almquist led all scorers with 18.
West Iron, which made just one three, was led by nine points from Brock Hopkins.
The Bulldogs (6-5, 2-2 WestPAC) will go for a seventh straight win tonight at home against Chassell.
