Choice is ours to make
To the editor:
There are countries in the world with stricter gun regulations and lower levels of gun ownership than the U.S. which enjoy far lower levels of gun crime each year.
There are also countries in the world with looser gun regulations and higher levels of gun ownership than the U.S. which enjoy far lower levels of gun crime each year.
In fact, the only variable between our outrageous levels of gun crime when comparing them to similar industrialized countries is our poor standard of living.
Perhaps that’s because we continue to treat education and healthcare as privileges instead of basic maintenance of our greatest asset and resource – our people.
So the way I see it, we have a choice. We can continue to neglect our citizenry and be forced to enact all kinds of laws to rein in the lowest common denominator. Or, we could make our population stronger, smarter, and healthier, and we could probably all own rocket launchers with nary an incident. The choice is ours.
