L’Anse girls take make-up game with Ontonagon

L’ANSE – L’Anse’s offense found its gear and the Purple Hornets found their 10th win of the season Friday, defeating Ontonagon 49-38 in a make-up game.

“We spaced the floor better, we scored a little bit in transition off steals. Our defense was good, it was aggressive, it waa really tight and we didn’t foul,” L’Anse coach Scott Lloyd said.

Leading the way was point guard Madi Swanson, who pumped in her third-best scoring total of the season with 28 points. Swanson added nine rebounds and six steals.

L’Anse took a 13-5 lead after a quarter and built it over the next two to an insurmountable 40-26 edge after three.

Both teams are talented, but diminutive, which played into L’Anse’s strengths.

“We finally played a team our size,” Lloyd said.

The Gladiators (10-3), who had a five-game win streak snapped, got 10 points apiece from Brooke Turin and Chelsea Truscott. They host Ewen-Trout Creek Monday.

L’Anse (10-5) hosts West Iron County Monday.
