Jeffers to host Digital Learning Day

PAINESDALE – Wednesday night, community members can come to Jeffers High School to learn everything from making budgets in spreadsheets to creating personalized birthday cards.

The Jeffers High School Business and Technology Club is hosting Digital Learning Day from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the school. All events are free and open to the public.

This is a community service project for the club, which has about 25 members in its first year. Many people in the community can benefit, especially older people who may be less familiar with computers, said club vice president Stephanie Fraki.

“I just think overall it’ll help people learn more about computers and technology,” Fraki said. “A lot of people don’t like (computers) because they don’t know how to use them. That’s what we’re going to do, help them.”

The event will include nine half-hour classes taught by the students.

The classes will cover:

attaching files with Google email;

using Microsoft Word;

creating presentations with PowerPoint;

learning about helpful informational websites;

online safety;

budgeting with Microsoft Excel;

creating a blog;

picture uploading and editing; and

creating personalized print items with Microsoft Publisher.
