CALUMET – Jack Forsberg, 86, passed away Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at Cypress Manor Nursing Home in Hancock.
Jack was born in Calumet to Henry “Ike” and Viola Forsberg. He attended local schools. Following graduation from Calumet High School, Jack enlisted in the Army in March, 1944 at the age of 17. During his 14 years in the military, Jack was stationed at many locations including Germany and the South Pacific.
While in Germany, he met and married Janis Engelbert of Binghamton, N.Y. Following his discharge, the couple returned to Calumet where he graduated from Michigan Tech in 1962.
The couple resided in Horseheads, N.Y. for two years where Jack was employed with Corning Glassworks. In 1965, they moved back to Calumet where Jack was employed at MTU until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry “Ike”; his mother, the former Viola Hartman; his wife, Janis in December 2002.
He is survived by his daughter, Kristine (William) Allmendinger of Waterford; son, Eric (Mary) of Calumet; five grandchildren, Sean, Kirsten, Rebecca, Shannon and Tristan.
He was a member of the Elks for many years and was a life member of American Legion Post 61.
Friends may call at the Ryan Funeral Home in Calumet on Wednesday, Feb. 6, from 5 to 8 p.m. An Elks Toast is scheduled for 7 p.m. and a Veteran’s Service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, Feb. 7, at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Ken Toth to officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
