Wins for Jeffers, Calumet
HOUGHTON – Brady Guilbault posted two goals and an assist as Jeffers defeated L’Anse 5-2 in Lake Superior Hockey Conference play Tuesday.
Jeffers (13-8) opened the scoring with tallies just 23 seconds apart from Travis Wesa and Tyler Bailey, but L’Anse’s Brett Hebert pulled one back before the end of the period and Tyler Polich tied it just 55 seconds into the second.
Jeffers then scored three unanswered, with Matthew Mantta bagging the game-winner at 4:38 of the season and Guilbault putting in both insurance goals.
Dax Durocher made 12 saves for the winners, while Jason Rank stopped 20 shots for L’Anse.
Calumet 8, Negaunee 0
NEGAUNEE – Eric Mattila had a pair of goals in one-way traffic Tuesday as Calumet wiped out Negaunee 8-0.
Shots were 61-2 in favor of Calumet in the lopsided contest, which Mattila’s second goal ended with 14:11 to play.
Other Calumet scorers included Robert Erkkila, Lucas Lahnala, Reilly Schreiber, Brendan Jacques, Blake Rowe and Bryce Johnson. Lahnala had a playmaker, while Jacques and Schreiber added two assists apiece.
Brian Rogers notched the shutout for Calumet (12-8), which travels downstate to face host Trenton in the MIHL Showcase Friday night.
