H-H ski teams fight for second at Pine Mtn.

IRON MOUNTAIN – Both Houghton-Hancock ski teams found themselves in close races for the runner-up spots during Tuesday’s meet at Pine Mountain.

The H-H girls finished tied for second with host Kingsford, while the H-H boys finished a half-point behind Kingsford in third place.

Marquette won both halves of the meet by comfortable margins, with 27 points for boys and 21 for girls.

For the H-H boys, Jacob Jarvis, Ian Helman and Daniel Henderson went seven-eight-nine in slalom. In giant slalom, Helman and Jarvis went sixth-seventh and Henderson tied for eighth.

On the girls’ side, Leslie Hamar led the team in both disciplines, taking third in GS and fourth in slalom. H-H also got top-10s from Ellie Lucier (sixth), Mary Maroste (eighth) and Brianne Maggio (10th) in GS, and Maggio (10th) in slalom.

The teams will make up the postponed meet at Blackjack Mtn. near Ironwood on Thursday.
