More information on OCAP can be found on its website, The website provides volunteer opportunities available, a wish list, calendar of events, photos of adoptable animals and link to Petfinder with more detailed information on the animals.

Volunteer Coordinator Janet Wolfe reported that Ontonagon Area High School students have been assisting at the shelter helping to socialize animals, clean cages and performing general housekeeping duties. Two National Honor Society members have committed 30 hours of their time and have been working on weekends. One brings a friend, who provides additional help. Students involved in a senior project also spent some of their class hours working at the shelter.

“It’s good to have energetic young people interested in caring for the animals,” Wolfe said. “They could be the people who replace us or support other shelters some day.”
