ELO, Mich. – Jenny Sylvia Pesola went to her Lord on Feb. 6, 2013, after succombing to old age.

She was born July 10, 1920, in Askel to Oscar and Jenny (Tauriainen) Heikkinen on the Heikkinen homestead.

Sylvia, as she was known, attended the Askel School through the eighth grade after which she worked in Detroit as a domestic until her marriage to R. Gordon Pesola in 1940 in Detroit. They resided in Detroit, returning to Elo where they owned and operated Pesola Service Station until retirement. Her last years were lived with her daughter in Cicero, Ind.

Sylvia was a loving mother, and an inspiration to those around her and was known for her loving kindness and hardworking spirit. She is fondly remembered for continuously cleaning and keeping busy. No job seemed impossible including building storage buildings, splitting and piling wood.

Her generous soul was exemplified by her sending money during her work as a domestic during the depression when the pay was less than $2 a day. She and her sisters bought the first washing machine for their mother and she bought her younger brother, Oscar, his first bicycle.

Sylvia always had a smile that warmed the heart of those on whom it fell.

Her greatest love in life were her grandchildren.
