Lions get into playoff position

HANCOCK – Finlandia claimed a vital victory in its regular season home hockey finale for 2012-13, taking down Lawrence 5-1 Saturday to jump into playoff position going into the last weekend.

The Lions (7-16-0, 7-11-0 MCHA) jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two periods and got two goals apiece from Sean Burke and Travis Armstrong. The other goal came from Jordan Passino and Mike Montrose recorded three assists.

Troy Chandler made 35 saves.

Finlandia goes into the final weekend of MCHA play up two points on both Lawrence and Northland in the MCHA North Division standings, but must play at already crowned league champion Adrian Friday and Saturday. Northland is at Milwaukee School of Engineering for two games, while Lawrence has a home-and-home with Lake Forest.

If Finlandia stays ahead of both teams, it will host a playoff series Friday and Saturday. If it stays ahead of one, it will travel to Northland or Lawrence, and if both pass the Lions, their season will be over.
