Geraldine J. “Gerry” Lucchesi
SOUTH RANGE – Geraldine J. Lucchesi, 76, of South Range, died on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock.
She was born in Baltic Aug. 3, 1936, a daughter of the late Cassimero and Eleanor (Recore) Perfetti. She attended Jeffers High School and graduated from Houghton High School.
On Aug. 3, 1957, she was married to Paul D. Lucchesi at Holy Family Catholic Church in South Range.
Gerry worked at the former Nelson’s Restaurant and Jim’s Foodmart in Houghton. She also worked at St. Vincent de Paul Store in Houghton, dedicating many hours to helping people.
Gerry was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in South Range. She lived for the Lord. In 1986, she was certified a Lay Minister by the Diocese of Marquette and served Holy Family along with her husband, Deacon Paul. She was a member of the Altar Society, a Eucharist minister, a member of the Daughters of Italy and helped with funeral luncheons. Whenever she brought communion to shut-ins, she would spend at least an hour visiting with them.
Gerry loved caring for her family. She enjoyed nature and being in the outdoors. She always looked forward to spending weekends at the camp with family. Her hobbies included going to painting classes and reading. She will also be remembered for being the best sister in the world. Her dog, Angel, was special to her.
Surviving are her children, Michael (Janet) of Sellersburg, Ind., Linda of South Range and Mario (Michelle) of Elwell, Mich.; six grandchildren, Michael (Brooke), Peter, Christopher (Kristen), Josh, Eli and Rebeka Joy; two great-grandchildren, Sophie and Katlyn; two sisters, Marlene “Midge” Perfetti of South Range and Sharon Wanhala of Chassell; a brother, Jim (Faye) Perfetti of Houghton; two aunts, Eva (David) Chimino of Houghton and Ascenta Nelson of Chicago; two brothers-in-law, Fred “Ace” Lucchesi of Houghton and Glen (Janet) Lucchesi of Denver, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Frances “Cookie” (Bob) Hitchcock of Fenton, Mich.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents and husband, Gerry was also preceded in death by a nephew, Kerry Wanhala; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Lucchesi.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16 in Holy Family Catholic Church in South Range with Fr. John Martignon as celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Saturday in the church. Spring burial will be in the Mountain View Cemetery in South Range.
