Robert’s Rules to Ruin
To the editor:
“The first panacea for a mismanaged nation is inflation of the currency; the second is war. Both bring a temporary prosperity; both bring a permanent ruin. But both are the refuge of political and economic opportunists.” This quote was made by Ernest Hemingway.
It would be helpful if the recent letter writer of Feb. 8 had documented when “Both Reagan and Bush … borrowed heavily.” Excuse me? Didn’t Obama horrendously increase the “large national debt” shortly after assuming his presidency with mega bailouts and stimulus packages?
What sane family would maintain a household by acquiring debt and borrowing money to right a bad situation?
Conservatives believe in paying their bills. It is not “hatred of taxes” that burns them but rather that taxes make possible the expanding of unnecessary government entitlements to a sub-class of freeloaders.
If the writer’s goal is the demise of America sooner than later, by all means keep advocating “Roberts’ Rules to Ruin.”
