Swanson, Jurmu share WestPAC honors

CALUMET – There will be two players of the year for girls’ basketball in the WestPAC this season and both will be back next year.

The league’s coaches selected juniors Elisa Jurmu of Houghton and Madi Swanson of L’Anse as co-players of the year in their meeting Wednesday.

Jurmu averaged 20 points per game for the Gremlins, while Swanson put in 19.2 per game for the Purple Hornets.

Three seniors and a sophomore also earned first-team selections: Houghton senior forward Blaire Zenner, Calumet senior guard Kristy Lasanen and West Iron County senior guard Kylee Erickson.

The sophomore on the first team is Calumet guard Lexie Rowe.

Four juniors and a senior make up the second team: L’Anse forward Valerie Rajala, L’Anse guard Kelsey Ross, Houghton guard Kelsie Richards, West Iron senior Emilie Christensen and West Iron junior Megan Miatech.

Houghton’s Sydney Dillinger, Calumet’s Terra Erkkila and Hancock’s Molly Berg received honorable mention.
