Bernadette M. Aho

CALUMET – Bernadette M. Aho, 104, of Calumet and most recently a resident of Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock, passed away early Friday morning, Feb. 22, 2013.

The former Bernadette Cloutier was born in Lake Linden on Aug. 26, 1908, a daughter of Alphonse and Roseanna (LaRose) Cloutier. She moved to Calumet as an infant and attended the schools there. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Class of 1927.

As a young woman, she moved to Detroit and then returned to Calumet in 1970.

She married Wilbert “Webby” Aho on Aug. 12, 1938 in the Sacred Heart Church in Calumet. Webby passed away in December 1980.

Mrs. Aho was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Calumet, its Altar Society and Choir and the Third Order of St. Francis.

She is survived by her son, Wilbert Arthur (Verdis) Aho of Royal Oak, Mich.; daughters, Rosemarie (Robert) Distefano of Sterling Heights, Mich., Cheryl (Paul) Hacker of Madison Heights, Mich. and Mary (John) Aiello of Sterling Heights; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren.

She is the oldest of nine children surviving: one brother, Francis (Violet) Cloutier of Laurium; one sister, Valeda Tomasi of Calumet; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in the spring in Sacred Heart Church in Calumet. A graveside service and blessing of the grave will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
