MARQUETTE – The Houghton-Hancock boys’ ski team put together a third-place finish in the MHSAA Division 2 State Finals Monday at Marquette Mountain.
The H-H boys finished with 129 points, well behind champions Petoskey (39) but right on the heels of runner-up Bloomfield Hills Andover’s 119.
Jacob Jarvis led H-H with an 11th-place finish in giant slalom, while Connor Johnson (19th), Tony Stein (22nd) and Ian Helman (24th) were all well inside the top half of a 67-racer field.
Helman cracked the top 10 in slalom with a combined time of 1 minutes, 25.08 seconds over two runs.
Stein came in 15th and Jarvis 26th.
On the girls’ side, H-H’s Leslie Hamar placed in both disciplines skiing as an individual competitor. She took fourth behind Kingsford’s Mandy Haferkorn in slalom and fourth behind Elk Rapids/Traverse City St. Francis’s Carlee McCardel in GS.
