Edward B. “Jim” Baril
LAKE LINDEN – Edward B. Baril, 86, of Lake Linden, died peacefully on Monday, Feb. 25, 2013.
Jim was born Sept. 22, 1926 in Lake Linden, a son of Arthur and Mary Louise (Bourdeau) Baril. He graduated from Lake Linden-Hubbell High School in 1945.
Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1945 until 1947 as a Staff Sergent with Company B 18th Infantry.
For more than 30 years, he worked for Herman Gundlach, Inc. as a leading superintendent on most of the MTU buildings and industrial installations in the Upper Peninsula until his retirement in 1988.
On Aug. 20, 1952, he was united in marriage to Muriel Eddy at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Lake Linden. She passed away on May 17, 2009.
Jim was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Linden and was a 61-year member of the Williams-Giroux American Legion Post 90 of Lake Linden. He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed woodworking, gardening, the outdoors and spending time with family and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Muriel; daughter, Candace; two brothers, Lionel and Robert; seven sisters, Madeline, Clara LeSage, Stella Scott, May Abele, Dorothy Chevalier, Irene Schnotala and Florence Murn.
He is survived by four children, Lynn (Greg) Magnuson of Lake Linden, Mark (Karen) Baril of Shorewood, Minn., Sandra (Ed) Jeannotte of Cheboygan, Mich. and Patricia (Andy) Burton of Lake Linden; grandchildren, Luke, Tess and Jackson Baril, Andrea and Adam Jeannotte, Tara (Cory) Michalec, Nicole Stemen, Alyssa Burton and Seth and Ben Johnson; two brothers, Rueben (Doris) and Urban “Tib” (Carol); one sister, Doris Julio; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 2 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Linden. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday in the Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden with a parish prayer service at 5:30 and an American Legion Service at 7 p.m. Spring burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Lake Linden.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Lake Linden-Hubbell High School on behalf of the Jim and Muriel (Eddy) Baril Memorial Scholarship.
