The Calumet Theatre to see Strange Days

CALUMET?- Are you a fan of a band that’s no longer performing??A band like The Doors, perhaps??If so, then you’re in luck, as Strange Days, a Doors tribute band will be playing at the Calumet Theatre.

Jason Tosta, who performs as Jim Morrison has been with the band for two and a half years, which has been performing off and on and with different people for about 12 years. And while Tosta has only been with the band for a relatively short period of time, it’s something he’s wanted to do for many years.

“For about 20 years I’ve wanted to do it,” he said. “I’ve been a fan from an early age, but could never find the right guys (to perform with).”

That all changed, however, when Tosta saw an ad on Craigslist looking for a temporary singer.

“I?went out to rehearse once and they offered me the job permanently,”?Tosta said.

While there are no shortage of tribute bands, Tosta said there’s one characteristic of Strange Days that sets them apart from others.

“The thing’s that different between us and other bands is that each member of our band portrays their character,” he said. “We all pay respect to the entire band.”

Tosta said the turnout for Strange Days is usually very good. In a recent performance the band had about 1,000 people come to see the show.

“The thing about it is is that I?don’t ever speak to the audience as if I’m not (Jim Morrison),” Tosta said. “It’s basically as if you’re seeing a Doors show. You’re going to see the mannerisms. You’re going to see what he did. I?buy into it 100 percent.”

Filling out the rest of the band is guitarist Robert Carsten, Michael Jacobson on keyboard and Chris Lammers of drums.

“We’re very excited about coming to Michigan,” Tosta said. “It’s a whole different vibe than Los Angeles.

Strange Days performs at 7: 30 p.m. on Saturday March 9. Tickets are on sale for $24. Discounts are available for theater members.
