Four Lions recognized

HANCOCK – Four Finlandia women’s basketball players were recognized recently by the Association of Division III Independents in their 2013 All-Independent women’s basketball team.

Lions sophomore guard/forward Marissa Burke was named second-team All-Independent.

Burke started all 25 games for the Lions in 2012-13, leading the team in scoring with 12.5 points per game in a team-high 32.8 minutes per game. Burke recorded two-fifths of the team’s block total with 22.

She also made a team-best 60 three-pointers for the season and was second on the team in rebounding (6.1 per game).

Three other Lions received honorable mention from AD3I, including sophomore guard Brierra Ruska (Trenary), junior guard Hailey Gervais (Hancock) and sophomore guard Paige Yoho (Negaunee).
