ONKALO’S CORNER – Heinz Schulze, 87, of Onkalo’s Corner, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at his home following a short illness.
He was born May 22, 1925 in Altenburg, Germany, son of the late Max and Anna (Kazmierczak) Schulze.
He married the former Irene Gloria Maki on June 5, 1948, in Hancock.
Heinz served in the U.S. Navy during WW II from 1943 to 1946. Following his time in the service, he worked for Copper Range Mining Company in Painesdale and White Pine Copper Mine. When the White Pine Mine closed, he attended Michigan Technological University in 1977 to become a machinist working for Pettibone and Anderson Welding until his retirement in 1991.
Besides his parents, Heinz was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria in 1992; a brother, Gerhard; and a granddaughter, Terri Louise Schulze.
Surviving are his children, Martin (Tammy) Schulze, Randolph Schulze, Richard (Mary Ann) Schulze, Vicki Schulze and Valeri Schulze; grandchildren, Jordan Schulze, Erin (Mike) Brokenshire and Lauren Schulze; six step-grandchildren, Kurt, Kevin and Karl Maki, Kylene (Robbie) Gilles, Konnie (Nic) Bonini and Kiira (Jeff) Baril; great-grandchildren, Meghan, Adrian, Audrey and Kate Brokenshire; 13 step-great-grandchildren, Logan, Kody, Deanna, Samantha, Gavin and Courtney Maki, Kanyon, Arizona and Cooper Gilles, Tallyn, Ember and Clayton Bonini; and Alivia Baril; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. April 8, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church in South Range, with Pastor Sally Wilke to officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
