Herta F. Sporalski
PAINESDALE – Herta F. Sporalski, 99, a former resident of Painesdale, passed away Friday, March 29, 2013, at Cypress Manor Nursing Home in Hancock where she had been a resident patient for the past nine months.
She was born Aug. 27, 1913, in Wernigerode, Germany, daughter of the late Gustav and Frieda (Niemann) Grohmann. As a child, she moved to Painesdale and attended the local schools.
She had resided in Painesdale until 2008 when she moved to live with her son and daughter-in-law in Hancock.
In 1932, she was united in marriage to Paul Sporalski. After 59 years together, he preceded her in death in 1991.
Mrs. Sporalski was a member of S.S. Peter & Paul Lutheran Church in Houghton where she was a former member of the Dorcas Society. She was also a former member of the Ladies Aide in Painesdale. Herta enjoyed knitting, crocheting and different handwork projects.
Preceding her in death were her husband; a daughter, Nancy Dove; her parents; her brother, Gus; and her sister, Hedwig Morin.
Surviving are her son, Paul (Marilyn) Sporalski of Hancock; her grandchildren, Amy (Darryl) Pierce of Laurium and Craig (Brienne) Sporalski of Hancock; great-grandchildren, Derek Pierce, Troy Pierce, Taylor Mattson, Mallory and Tatum Sporalski; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services for Herta will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, in S.S. Peter & Paul Lutheran Church in Houghton with Rev. Aaron Gehrke to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. Tuesday until time of services in the church.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests that memorials be given to S.S. Peter & Paul Lutheran Church in Houghton.
