Gorgeous gliding, gorging

To the editor:

The 5th Annual Glide-N-Gorge took place March 3 at the Maasto Hiihto Ski Trails in Hancock. It was a beautiful sunny day with our trails in excellent condition.

Participants enjoyed a 3.5-mile ski/snowshoe along the trails with stops for appetizers, a main course, and desserts and live entertainment back at the chalet.

We are pleased to have had about 100 participants who helped us raise close to $1,800. The funds will be used to purchase and maintain equipment in order to keep our trails in the best condition possible.

On behalf of the Keweenaw Nordic Ski Club, I would like to thank the following for helping to make this event such a success: Peterson’s Fish Market, The Library Restaurant and Brew Pub, Roy’s Bakery, Keweenaw Co-op, Vollwerth’s, Tadych’s Econo Foods, Fifth & Elm Coffee House and Eatery, Down Wind Sports, Cross Country Sports, Dave’s BP, Norm Kendall, Sue Ellen Kingsley, Betty Archer, Karen Fenton, Jeanne Diebel, Spencer Silvola, Hunter Houle, Blair Orr, Don Savera, Barbara Wheeler, Susan Rosemurgy and the art class from the Public Schools of Calumet, Laurium and Keweenaw, and anyone else I unintentionally omitted.

I would like to thank all of the participants for coming out and supporting our club’s only fundraiser. It was nice to see all of the smiling faces and the many children who came out to enjoy the day.

If anyone would like to become more involved with our club, please check out our website at keweenawnordic.org.

We hope to see you all back next year at the 6th Annual Glide-N-Gorge.
