CHASSELL – Albin W. Liimatta, 84, of Chassell, died Thursday, Apr. 4, 2013, at Cypress Manor Health & Rehab Center in Hancock.

He was born Feb. 18, 1929, in Chassell, the son of Frank and Mary (Raisanen) Liimatta and attended Chassell Schools.

Albin spent most of his life on the farm in Klingville. Some of the young people called him “Strawberry Al” since he enjoyed working with them and raising strawberries.He frequently gave rides to town on Sunday evening when they had to return to their work/living places for the following week.

He was very mechanically inclined and was always willing to help others. He drove truck for various companies including Complete and Anchor Motor Carriers, retiring after 25 years.

Albin was the last of 13 children. He was preceded in death by his parents; three infant siblings, Roy, Ernest and Saima Ruth; brothers, Francis, Ainard, Fred, Erwin, Wesley, August, Norman, Kenneth; sisters, Lila Milma Rachki, Florence Mildred, Mary Edith and Effie Elizabeth Virenius.

Surviving are 23 nephews, grand-nephews, grand-nieces, many dear friends.

In 1951, Albin introduced his nephew, Elmer to a neighbor, Ruth Tapio. Three years later, he was best man at their wedding.

Albin was devoted to His Lord and Church. “Be thou faithful unto death and I will give thee a crown of life.” – Revelations 2:10.

Funeral services for Mr. Liimatta will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Chassell with Rev. Elmer Liimatta D. Min. officiating. Spring burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet. Visitation will be on Sunday, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the chapel in Chassell.
