Nine countries in one room
HANCOCK – Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly have offices in nine countries, and the local office’s annual Spring Fling fundraiser will recognize that fact, according to Trisia Kappler.
“The theme this year is ‘A Journey Around the World,'” said Kappler, who is a member of the local LBFE board. “We’re featuring food and beverages from those countries.”
The event will begin at 6 p.m. April 27 at the Shelden Grill in the Magnuson Hotel Franklin Square Inn, Kappler said. An invitation is not required. The cost is $25 per person, and when those attending arrive, they will be given a “passport,” which will be stamped at each booth with food from the nine countries represented. Prizes can be won with the passports, also.
“You can put your passport into a drawing at the end of the night,” she said.
There will also be a live auction, silent auction and a 50/50 raffle, Kappler said. The silent auction items include: a Mexican dinner for eight prepared at the winner’s home; a dinner of the winner’s choice prepared by the Harbor Haus Restaurant of Copper Harbor, also in the winner’s home; fishing trips; hotel stays; donated items from Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly offices in other countries; Michigan State University items; and a Mackinac Island stay.
“We have more than 40 items,” she said.
Kappler said the dinner, which will be prepared by chef Cormac Ronan, is different from the organization’s other Spring Fling dinners in that it will not be a sit-down dinner, rather diners will move from booth to booth to sample the various menu items. Vegetarian and gluten-free foods will also be available.
Diners will be able to purchase full bottles of wine, with proceeds going to LBFE, also, Kappler said.
Tickets for the LBFE Spring Fling can be purchased at the office at 527 Hancock St. in Hancock. For more information, call 482-6944.
Kappler said she expects the format for the dinner to make it especially enjoyable.
“It really should be a great, fun event,” she said.
