HANCOCK – Helen Larsen, 94, of Hancock, passed away on Friday evening, April 19, 2013, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility.
She was born in Hancock on July 3, 1918, to the late Louis and Rose (Marshall) Kulka. She graduated from St. Joseph High School, and in 1950 she married Gerald Larsen in Detroit.
After living in the Detroit area for a time, they moved back to live in Houghton and Hancock for most of their married life. He passed away in 1993.
Helen was a member of the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock. She enjoyed playing card games.
She is survived by a son, Peter Larsen of San Antonio, Texas; two granddaughters, Lisa and Patricia Larsen; two great-grandchildren, Justine and Isaac, all living in the San Antonia area; a sister, Theresa Yankovich of Hancock; a sister-in-law, Alice Kolka of Chassell; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond, Bernard, and L. James Kolka.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday in the Church of the Resurrection with Rev. Fr. Brian Gerber to officiate. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton in the spring.
Friends may call at the O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home in Hancock on Thursday from 6 until 8pm.
