Finlandia softball wins 2 at GSAC tourney

CLEMMONS, N.C. – The No. 2-seeded Finlandia Lions women’s softball team won its first two games in its first-ever Great South Athletic Conference Tournament Friday, but the wins could not have been more different.

In the first game, the Lions quickly eliminated any concern about bus legs affecting the performance after the 18-hour trip, destroying Trinity Washington University 28-0. Statistics were not available for the game.

In the second game, Finlandia opened up a 2-0 first-inning lead and held on for a 3-2 win over Agnes Scott, even after the Scotties scored their two runs in the seventh and final inning.

Paige Yoho and Alyson Herman both had two hits for the Lions, while Adrianna Osuna led the team with two RBIs. Herman allowed eights hits and strike out five in the pitching win.

Finlandia is slated to play Northwestern (Minn.) in a doubleheader today at 4 and 6 p.m. in the double-elimination tournament.
