House burns amid flood in Calumet Twp.

CALUMET TOWNSHIP – A Calumet Township home suffered extensive damage in a Monday fire, though there were no injuries.

The fire began about 5:10 p.m. at the home on Maple Road, located off Trap Rock Valley Road.

“The owner was doing some welding,” said Chief Pat Boberg of Calumet Township Fire Department. “It caught the wall, and went from there.”

Firefighters were on the scene for four-and-a-half hours. Boberg said there had been “considerable” damage to the house, which was “close to a total loss.”

In addition to Calumet Township, the Bootjack, Lake Linden, Allouez Township and Copper City departments responded to the fire. American Red Cross and Pigs-n-Heat also provided assistance.
