KEARSARGE – Burton Jarvi, 78, a resident of Kearsarge, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock.
He was born May 8, 1935, in Kearsarge, a son of the late Seth and Ruth (Rajaniemi) Jarvi. He graduated from Cass Tech High School and later attended Lawrence Technical College.
Burton worked for Chrysler Corp., starting as an electrician and retiring in upper management in 1985. In his retirement years, he loved to golf.
Preceding him in death were two sisters, Ruth Henrietta and Diane.
Surviving are two sons, Paul (Lisa) Jarvi of Kingsport, Tenn., and Michael Jarvi of White Lake, Mich.; three daughters, Debi (Dennis) Gruschow of Ann Arbor, Mich., Cheryl Jarvi-Jones of Springfield, Ore., and Jenny (Randy) Jarvi-Smith of White Lake, Mich.; 12 grandchilden; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Eugene (Marilyn) Jarvi of Prudenville, Mich; a sister, Janis Djarf of Kearsarge.
Private family services will be held in the Erickson- Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet. Online condolences may be left for the family at ericksoncrowleypeterson.com.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be given in Burton’s name to the Houghton County Medical Care Facility, 3rd Floor, 1100 W. Quincy St., Hancock, MI 49930.
