Leaf leads L’Anse boys
NORWAY – L’Anse, behind medalist Tristan Leaf’s one-over par 73, captured the Norway Invitational boys’ golf meet Wednesday at Oak Crest Golf Course.
The Hornets registered a 331 in holding off the host Norway Knights, 335, in the 15-team test. Houghton, 336, snared third place while Iron Mountain and Negaunee shared fourth at 339.
Leaf covered the front nine in par 36. The Hornets also tallied Raymond Miron and Brett Martinez, 84, and Andre Richards, 90.
Individual runner-up Hunter Eichhorn of Carney-Nadeau shot a 76, completing the back nine in one-over par.
Iron Mountain’s Nate Markell placed third with a 77 and teammate Austin Blomquist added a 79. Four other golfers shot sub-80 rounds – Negaunee’s David Renaldi and Houghton’s Wyatt Liston, 78; Niagara’s TJ Liebergen and Norway’s Austin Hansen, 79.
Rivals Calumet and Hancock both filed 346 to finish tied for eighth. Reese Lassila and Bryce Johnson shot twin 81s to lead the Copper Kings, while Tony Fisher’s 82 was the best score from the Bulldogs.
WestPAC teams will converge on L’Anse today for the first league meet of the season for both boys and girls.
