Walk-off victory for Pat’s Majors
HOUGHTON – Pat’s Foods got the extra run it needed in extra innings for a 4-3 win over Matt’s Auto Glass in Portage Lake Little League Major (age 11-12) division play Monday.
Jackson Rocchi walked, moved to second on a passed ball, stole third and scored the winning run when the throw got past the third baseman.
Matt’s turned a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 lead after Ashton Janke drove in a run and Evan Larson two in the fifth inning, but Rocchi tripled and scored on Alex Nordstrom’s RBI single in the bottom half of the inning.
Nordstrom had a 3-for-3 day and was the winning pitcher in relief of Ivan Crist, who went five solid innings. The pair combined to strike out 13.
Janke took the loss for Thrivent in relief of Brett Massie, who struck out eight in four innings.
In Minor (9-10) play, Davin Hill and Shawn Ruotsala combined on a one-hitter as J. Peltier Construction blanked Thrivent Financial 7-0.
Isaac Cleary had the fifth-inning single for Thrivent, but Hill and Ruotsala combined to record 16 of 18 outs by the K.
Dylan Horning drove in a pair of runs in the fourth with an RBI single, while Dylan Primeau scored in the fifth on a leadoff double.
Saturday, Loading Zone II’s eight-run third broke open its Keweenaw Little League Major game with Lassila Insurance in a 21-7 game.
Connor Baccus, the winning pitcher, and Noah Bach had three hits for the winners, while Kellen Klein and Ashton Martilla had two.
Travis Ojala and Daniel Tarnowski picked up a pair of hits apiece for Lassila.
