Rippa holds on in slowpitch

HANCOCK – Rippa Products held on to its 11-0 lead after two innings, just barely, for a 19-17 win over Monte Carlo at Hancock Driving Park Monday in Copper Country men’s slowpitch play.

Shawn MacDonald and Jared Loukus had four hits for Rippa, which also got two singles and a double from James Loukus.

Miller’s Lanes/The Edge/906 Entertainment edged American Legion Post 90 24-23 in Laurium.

Dan Eikenberry went 5-for-6 with a double and a triple, while D.J. Coponen, Dave Kamrad and Derek Poyhonen posted four hits apiece. Miller’s had four triples, including two from Coponen.

Post 90 got six home runs, including three from Joe Rivest. Bill Bastion was 5-for-6 with a homer and a double, while Allen Klutts had a homer and two doubles on a four-hit night. Kevin LaRoux, Jason Wilks, Rivest and Dean Scherbring posted three hits apiece.

Team 7 split its two games in Hurontown. In the opener, it stopped Osmose/Erickson-Crowley-Peterson 22-14.

Phil Milbrath, Frank Vruwink and Taylor Ziolkowski had four hits apiece. Paul Kuoppala added three, and Bruce Tebelman clubbed a pair of home runs.

In defeat, Osmose/Erickson-Crowley-Peterson had 4-for-4 games from Steve Lacourt and Adam Kerry, while six others had three hits apiece.

In game two, Pat’s Foods defeated Team 7 28-23.

Four players had three hits, including Tony Carley and Max LeSatz.

For Team 7, Kuoppala went 5-for-6 and was a double short of the cycle. Vruwink and Milbrath added four hits and there were six home runs, two by Milbrath and Ziolkowski.
