Auto Pro, J. Peltier remain unbeaten

HOUGHTON – Auto Pro Glass and Tire remained unbeaten in Portage Lake Little League Minor division play Wednesday with a tight 6-5 win over Kissel Chevrolet.

Andrew Kinnunen delivered the game-winning RBI, a bunt single. Cody Sebbas was the winning pitcher and went 2-for-2 with a triple. Gaborik Carlson added a third-inning RBI double.

For Kissel, Brady Schmier and Kyle Maki had strong pitching outings and Tanner Larson and Dominick Barrette had RBI triples.

Auto Pro’s win came on the heels of a 9-8 win over Chassell VFW Monday in which Ethan Jarvela struck out 10 and Nolan Sturos, Andrew Kinnunen and Austin Kinnunen all had three-hit games.

Wednesday, J. Peltier Construction also remained undefeated with a 9-5 decision over Chassell VFW.

JPC started out fast, hitting the five-run maximum on just seven first-inning pitches. Shawn Ruotsala led off with a triple. Dylan Horning reached on a fielder’s choice, Davin Hill homered, Dylan Primeau reached on an error, Jonah Horning tripled and Nick Horning ended the inning with an RBI triple.

VFW responded by hitting its limit in the third to get within 6-5, with Jiseung Choi’s bases-clearing triple the major blow, but JPC recorded a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to pull away.

Nick and Dylan Horning and Ruotsala combined on pitching duties, allowing five runs on nine hits with 11 strikeouts and three walks. Dylan Horning and Hill posted two hits apiece.

For Chassell VFW, Eli Oldt and Tedd Halonen had two-hit nights.

In Keweenaw Little League Major play, Loading Zone II scored twice in the sixth for a 5-4 win over Royale, Inc., thanks to a two-out, two-RBI single from Connor Baccus.

Cole Gregorie had a four-hit day for the winners.

In Major softball, Michigan Tech Employees Federal Credit Union rolled to a 13-1 win over E-Center behind a one-hitter pitched by Becca Markham.

Markham also helped her own cause by going 3-for-3 with a double.

Jada Markham kicked in three more hits for MTEFCU.

Douglass Agency got a walk-off 10-9 win over Copper Range Abstract and Title in Major softball.

Douglass strung together hits from Milly Hoskins, Madelyn Pierner and Briah Maki to score the winning run in the seventh.

Pierner was the winning pitcher. She and Ashley Huffmaster had three hits. Maki had a pair of hits and reached base four times.

In Senior baseball, Favorites rolled 19-1 over the Brewers. Beau Dupuis had a four-hit night for the winners. Coy Budweg struck out eight in a five-inning complete game four-hitter.
