Bucko’s/Labatt’s keeps runs off scoreboard
HOUGHTON – Bucko’s/ Labatt’s specialized capably in run prevention Wednesday, holding both of its Copper Country men’s slowpitch opponents to single digits in a 2-0 night.
In the opener at Miller Memorial Field in Laurium, Bucko’s/Labatt’s edged American Legion Post 90 by 10-9 count.
Aron Butkovich was 3-for-3 with a double for the winners, while Jack Benson homered and five others had two hits apiece.
Joe Rivest and Kevin LaRoux had three-hit games for Post 90, while Allen Klutts homered.
In game two, Bucko’s/Labatt’s busted open a defensive struggle with 14 runs in the seventh for a 19-3 win over Monte Carlo.
Kevin Tormala went 4-for-5, while Butkovich, Jack Benson and George VanDenburg posted three hits apiece, with one of Benson’s a home run.
Downtowner 2 squeaked past Miller’s Lanes/The Edge/906 Entertainment 26-25.
DT2’s Jeff Lipari-Jordan scored five times and had four hits, while Pete Pelissero, Dave Usitalo, Scott Hall and Tim Engman recorded three hits apiece.
For Miller’s, Rod Barnes went 5-for-5, while D.J. Coponen and Derek Poyhonen had four-hit games, with Coponen posting three triples.
Pat’s Foods outslugged Osmose/Erickson-Crowley-Peterson 41-22. Jake Frisk had four hits, while Jace Fritzler, Logan Rastello, Ryan Gerbig, Ross DuMonthier and Tony Carley had three apiece.
