Lawrence “Laury” Jukuri

LAURIUM – Lawrence “Laury” Jukuri , 71, a resident of Laurium, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2013, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility’s Woodland Haven, where he was a resident patient for the past month.

He was born February 4, 1942, in Laurium, a son of the late Emil and Lempi (Hendrickson) Jukuri. He graduated from Calumet High School with the class of 1959 and later attended Suomi College and Michigan Tech, receiving his bachelor’s degree in accounting.

On August 3, 1963, he was married to Theresa Gertz in St. Cecelia’s Church in Hubbell.

Laury was a lifelong resident of Laurium. He owned and operated Jukuri’s Sauna for many years, and worked as an accountant for Cybulski & Turnquist CPAs and for John I. Jukuri CPA until his retirement in 2001.

He was a member of the Laurium Apostolic Lutheran Church.

Laury enjoyed spending time with his family at their cottage in Bootjack. Being very talented at “water witching,” he enjoyed finding well drilling sites for anybody who needed one. He also loved playing and watching the game of hockey and was especially proud of having coached the CLK-Torch Lake Girls team for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James M. Jukuri; a sister-in-law Ruth Jukuri.

Surviving are: His wife Theresa; daughter, Lori Marie (Bryan) Ackerman of Freeland, Mich.; son, Stephen Jukuri (Dan Hendrickson) of Benton Harbor, Mich.; two grandchildren, Benjamin and Nathan Ackerman; three brothers: Gordon (Marilyn) Jukuri of Chassell, John Jukuri of Calumet and David (Barbara) Jukuri of Hancock; sister-in-law, Gail Jukuri of Laurium; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 14, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the Laurium Apostolic Lutheran Church in Laurium with Rev. Jay Weidner and Rev. Rodney Johnson to officiate.

Friends may call at the Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the funeral in the church on Friday. Burial will be in the Jacobsville Cemetery.
