ALLOUEZ – Beatrice Hyrkas, 81, a lifelong resident of Allouez, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital in Laurium.
She was born November 7, 1931 in Lake Linden, the daughter of the late Nester and Lillian (Willmer) Ruona and attended the local schools.
On July 19, 1958 Beatrice was united in marriage to Carlo Hyrkas and the couple resided in Allouez. Carlo passed away on July 13, 1985.
Also preceding her in death were a stillborn son, Norman; one brother, Raymond; sister, Joyce Nordstrom.
Beatrice was employed by the County Hospital, now known as the Houghton County Medical Care facility for several years working in the kitchen and housekeeping.
Beatrice enjoyed spending time with family and friends at various gatherings. She enjoyed going on picnics and berry picking. Beatrice also loved attending her granddaughter’s activities, her three family cats and Detroit Red Wings games.
Surviving are, three daughters, Jean (Jeff) Trembath of Laurium, Marie Hyrkas of Allouez and Karla Hyrkas (Dave (Dibba) Manninen) of Old Colony Location; one granddaughter, Mikayla Thomas of Allouez; brothers, Wilmer (Lucy) Ruona of Colorado Springs, Edwin (Anita) Ruona of Calumet; sisters, Laila (Paul) Knuuti of Kenosha, Wis., and Jane (Bill) Pelto of Seneca Location/Mohawk; several nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
Funeral services will be held at the Fulton Apostolic Lutheran Church on Tuesday June 18, 2013 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Richard Eskola to officiate.
Visitation services for Beatrice will be held on Monday June 17, 2013 from 4-7 p.m. in the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet and one hour prior to the service at church.
Burial will be held in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.
The Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet is assisting the family with arrangements.
