Kenner Dome belongs to community

Five years ago with the help and support of so many people, we started the Breakers to Bay 5-mile road race. While by no means a major event, we do this to give back to a community that we love and are proud to be a part of.

Each year has had its own special moments and people who have come forward to help because of their memories of using the rink, the friendships they’ve made, or the things they did growing up. This year was no exception. A heartfelt donation came with a note which said, “Enclosed is a donation for the Kenner Dome in memory of our dad, Jim Markham. We are happy to give back a little to something that he thought was a great part of our community and used and enjoyed by so many.” Another donation came from Marge Miller in memory of her late husband, legendary hockey coach Don Miller. Because of them and many others, the memories and legacies live on.

The Kenner Dome belongs to the whole community, which is why we are also looking toward the future, hoping to build that sense of community pride and commitment. New this year was a kids race, which was free to all participants. However, when one young man came to register for the race, he insisted on using his own money to make a donation to the Kenner Dome. It was truly wonderful. We’d like to thank him, our thoughtful anonymous donor, and everyone from participants to volunteers to sponsors for helping us continue to keep memories alive while looking toward the future.
