Calumet Lions say thank you
To the editor:
The Calumet Lions Club would like to extend our thanks to everyone in the community that came out and supported our annual White Cane fundraiser event which was held on June 1. A special thanks goes out to the Ace Hardware in Calumet and Pat’s IGA for their warm response and welcome in hosting our event.
Over the past year the club has collected over 1000 pairs of glasses and lenses that have been sorted and mailed to various processing centers. At these centers they are sorted cleaned and the prescriptions are determined. From there they are donated and fitted to people in a host of countries. Used hearing aides are also collected.
White Cane is one of the club’s fundraisers that support the Service Dog program.
These dogs are the true companions in providing a lifeline to normalcy and purpose to those in need. The White Cane represents individuals who are visually impaired.
Again, the Lions Clubs truly appreciates the generosity of the community. Our fundraiser was a great success and all money raised stays in the local community to support school programs such as: CLK yearly scholarships, robotics team, fourth grade dictionaries, Hockey Association and baseball team. Local programs such as Salvation Army, and Angel Mission also benefit from the Lions Club, in addition to eye exams and glasses.
