Robert G. ‘Grease’ Poisson
HUBBELL – Robert G. Poisson, 75, of Hubbell, passed away unexpectedly on July 3, 2013, at Marquette General Hospital. A lasting donation was made to Gift of Life.
He was born March 29, 1938, in Hubbell, a son of Wilfred and Veronica (Perreault) Poisson, the youngest of 10 children.
He graduated from Lake Linden-Hubbell High School in 1956. While in school, he was employed at Erkkila’s Garage in Hubbell. He worked in the mines for C&H Mining before joining the Marine Corps and serving from 1957-1959. Later, he returned to C&H and Homestake Mining. He then worked for the Houghton County Road Commission, retiring in 2001 after 27 years there.
He was married to Sharon Germaine in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Linden on September 29, 1962. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last summer.
He became a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Linden when St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Hubbell closed.
In his younger years, Robert enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing with his brothers. For the last 40-plus years, he enjoyed hunting and time spent with friends at Larry Curtin’s camp.
He loved spending time with family and at Bootjack. He was kind-hearted and a friend to all. He was always willing to help others, but never asked for help in return. Like Will Rogers, “he never met a man he didn’t like.”
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Herman (killed in Korea in 1952) and Joe; sister, Marie Stevens; four brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; four children, Denise (Keith) Cormier of Allegan, Mich., Scott (Marie) of Escanaba, Diane (Kevin) Hall of Prescott, Ariz., and Mike of Hubbell; seven grandchildren, Andy (Aubrie) Bruinsma, Matt Bruinsma, Shane and Lucas Poisson, Kayla and Logan Poisson and Trevor LeBlanc.
Bob was looking forward to the birth of a new granddaughter to arrive soon.
Further survived by four sisters, Bernadette Genovesi, Delores Bastian, Patsy Arens and Toni Bastian; two brothers, Jerome (Rosemarie) and Francis; brothers-in-law, James Germain and Brian (Peggy) Germain; sisters-in-law, Gloria “Peachy” Stuffle and Donna (Wayne) Racine; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m.Tuesday, July 9, in Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Linden with Fr. Francis Dobrzenski to officiate. Visitation will be on Monday from 5 until 8 p.m. in the Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden with a parish prayer service at 7:30.
