Elmer W. Maki

TAPIOLA – Elmer W. Maki, 81, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2013, in the Houghton County Medical Care Facility where he resided for the past two years.

He was born November 27, 1931, in Elo, Mich., the son of Evert and Emma (Anderson) Maki.

He attended the John A. Doelle School.

In 1972, Elmer began working at Karvakko’s Market in Tapiola and living with the Karvakko family. He worked there until 2008. In 2011, he moved to the Houghton County Medical Care Facility.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Evert and Emma Maki; brothers, Arthur, Arnold, Warner and Benhart.

Elmer is survived by his sister, Bertha of Ishpeming; numerous nieces and nephews; his guardian and caretakers, Paul and Joyce Karvakko; best friends, Stephen (Liz) Karvakko; the Karvakko children, Josh, Stephanie, Michael, Jessica, Stacey, Kristopher, Janelle and their families.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility for their care of Elmer.

A memorial service for Elmer will be held later this summer. Arrangements are being handled by the Mountain View Mortuary of South Range, Antila Funeral Service, Inc.
