Webster F. Gagnon
L’ANSE – Webster F. Gagnon, 77, of L’Anse, passed away unexpectedly Monday, July 8, 2013, at Baraga County Memorial Hospital in L’Anse.
He was born in Chassell, on January 30, 1936, the son of the late Webster and Elaine (Landstrom) Gagnon.
Webster attended school in Chassell, graduating in 1954. He joined the United States Navy in 1957 and served aboard the USS Harveson. Following his discharge, he married the former Marilyn J. Getzen in January of 1959 in St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Baraga. She preceded him in death on May 18, 2013.
He was a former foster parent for nearly 200 children over the past 25 years in Fort Worth, Tex., and was currently the owner and operator of The Serenity Home in L’Anse. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in L’Anse.
Webster enjoyed woodworking, and building things for his grandchildren. His patience and understanding was underscored by his unselfish personality.
He is survived by his sons, Alan W. (Valoree S.) Gagnon of L’Anse, Micheal P., (Beth A.) Gagnon of L’Anse, Justin (Rebecca) Gagnon of Fort Worth, Tex., Taylor Gagnon of Herman, Eddy S. Gagnon of Hancock; grandchildren, Christian Gagnon of L’Anse, Dylan Cassel of Houghton, Landon Butcher of Fort Worth, Tex., Flash and Canon Gagnon of L’Anse, and Dominic Gagnon of Fort Worth, Tex.; sister, Nancy Fenili of Hancock; sisters-in-law, Jodean (Nick) Lindemann of Baraga, Ramona (Ronald) LeClaire of L’Anse, Joanne Sackett; brothers-in-law, Peter (Jean) Getzen of Stephenson, Mich., Paul Getzen of Detroit; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Webster will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2013, in the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Deacon John Cadeau officiating. The family will greet friends in the funeral chapel on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
Baraga County area veterans, under the direction of the Baraga American Legion post 444 will conduct Military Honors in the funeral chapel at 10 a.m. and a parish rosary will be conducted at 10:30 a.m.
Following the services, the family invites friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the Harrington Gathering Room, located in the funeral chapel.
Memorials in Mr. Gagnon’s honor may be directed to Sacred Heart Library Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
Interment will take place in the Baraga Cemetery.
