Several slowpitch slugfests
HOUGHTON – Bucko’s/Labatt’s traded blows with American Legion Post 90, and after 62 runs and 74 hits, came away 32-30 victors in Copper Country men’s slowpitch at Laurium Wednesday.
Dave Frantti was 6-for-6 with a double and a triple, Aron Butkovich had five hits, including a home run, and George VanDenburg had five hits, including a pair of doubles.
Kevin Tormala, Jack Benson and Joel Vertin had four-hit games.
Team 7 outslugged Bucko’s/Labatt’s in the nightcap, 34-29.
In defeat, Frantti was 5-for-5, tripled and homered. Benson, Jay Bies and Charlie Kemppainen had four hits apiece.
At Hurontown, Osmose/Erickson-Crowley-Peterson edged Rippa Products 17-15. The winners had six hits, and a pair of triples, from Steve Lacourt. Josh Issac went 4-for-5 with two doubles.
In a make-up game, Pat’s Foods topped Monte Carlo 32-23. Max LeSatz hit for the cycle and had six hits, while Henry Baron had three doubles in a six-hit game. Jace Fritzler had five hits, while Logan Rastello and Phil Korby had four apiece.
Miller’s Lanes/The Edge/906 Enterprises squeaked out a 22-21 win over the Monte with help from six hits from D.J. Coponen. Two were doubles and a third a triple.
Jim Perron had a five-hit night, while Dave Kamrad and D.J. Schmitt posted four apiece.
McGann’s/Northern Auto dispatched Downtowner 2 29-10. Steve Aho homered twice and had five hits in the win. Josh Frantti and Jason Koski both had four hits with a homer. Scott Wesa was also 5-for-6.
For the DT, Pete Pelissero, Dave Usitalo and Jeff Lipari-Jordan had a game-best three hits.
