Post 90 wins slowpitch walkoff
LAURIUM – American Legion Post 90 scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning Monday night to earn a 14-13 walkoff win over Miller’s Lanes/The Edge/906 Enterprises in Copper County men’s slowpitch softball at Billy Miller Memorlal Field in Laurium.
Hitting statistics were unavailable for the victors, but DJ Schmitt had a four-hit night in defeat, including a triple. Rod Barnes, Jim Perron and Derek Poyhonen each registered three hits, with Perron and Poyhonen each tallying a pair of doubles. Poyhonen took the loss on the mound.
Another close game in Laurium featured Rippa Products edging Downtowner 2 by a 16-12 final.
Alex Loukus, who had four hits in the game, held DT2 to just one run in the top of the ninth inning to clinch the win.
Stewart Krumm of Rippa and Erik Nettell of DT2 also had four-hit nights, with Nettell launching a pair of home runs. Jake Loukus, who had three raps for Rippa, also played long ball once, falling a single shy of the cycle.
The two games at Hancock Driving Park weren’t quite as close, but still had single-digit margins of victory.
Osmose/Erickson Crowley earned a 13-7 win over Monte Carlo, despite only registering 11 hits. Brandon Mukavetz was the only O/EC hitter with two hits, and only Josh Isaac registered an extra-base knock, a triple. Osmose batters were walked 15 times. Monte Carlo stats were unavailable.
Lastly, Team 7 edged Pat’s Foods 21-12. Team 7 stats were not available, but Pat’s tallied 21 hits in the game. Jace Fritzler and Adam Hayrynen each had four hits, with one of Fritzler’s being a triple, while George Kranitz had three hits in the win.
